Extra Recipe: Bentou Boxing

Summary: Picnic and the Arcade!

Kazumi had spent most of the morning preparing for her day with Fionna in one way or another, picking what to wear or getting ingredients for the lunch. She'd also made sure to make extra for Akira, leaving it out on the counter with a note about where she'd gone.

In any case, Kazumi was waiting in front of the Orchard for Fionna, having just picked some fresh fruit to go with what she'd made. Hopefully the girl would arrive soon, since she was pretty excited about going to the Arcade today!

...and kind of hungry.

"Yeah well, y'know, whatever!" Fionna said, reddening slightly. "You can always make something for Akira too right? People always like it when you make food for them!"

Of course, Akira was miss smooth operator, so who knew what her business was?

"So now that we know that, what should we do in the meantime?"

[starofpleiades]

"Yup! Well, I cook for her all the time now... but it makes her happy, so I'm happy!" Kazumi giggled.

"Well, if you're done eating, lemme just back everything up and we can head to the arcade, if you still want to! Or maybe do something outside since it's so nice~" But it was nice every day, so it's not like it'd be too much of a waste hitting the arcade instead. That had been the point of this date anyway.

[fionna_time]

"Yeah, she kinda seems like the type that won't go hungry," Fionna observed, "because she knows how to charm the pants off ya. In my worls, we'd say she's kinda smoove that way."

Oh right, the arcade! "Yeah man, let's totally go and get to the arcade! I know I said that it was a nice day, but maybe we can go and play in the sun afterward! Right now, I kinda wanna go and get my head into some cool games!"

[starofpleiades]

"Ehehe, basically," Kazumi agreed.

"Yeah, awesome! I'll get everything cleaned up; if you could just fold the blanket!" she said as she started packing up the remaining food. They'd made a pretty huge dent in it, but it seems like she'd made too much anyway.

[fionna_time]

Fionna nodded, understanding all too well how important it was that everything be neat and tidy and back to the way it was. She folded it neatly and slung it in her book bag, ready to go.

"Lead the way!"

"Alright!" cheered Kazumi as she started to head out, only to stop a few paces away, turning back to Fionna. "Wait, which way is it?"

[fionna_time]

"That way," Fionna pointed out, grinning and taking the girl's hand. "Come on, let's go! I'll race ya!"

[starofpleiades]

"Hahaha, you're on!" said Kazumi, breaking into a run. Given they were holding hands though, it wasn't as if either of them would be pulling ahead anytime soon though]

[fionna_time]

That was a good point. All that wound up doing really was making it so Fionna wound up dragging Kazumi toward the beach, past the boardwalk where they finally came to the old fashioned looking arcade. They were pretty strange games, and sadly, there was no UFO among them.

"I think my favorite is the Unicorn game," Fionna said, chuckling. "I play that every time I come in here!"

Kazumi was a pretty good runner, but Fionna definitely made her go fast to keep up. All in all it was pretty fun and at least they managed not to trip each other up, running like that.

"The unicorn game?" asked Kazumi curiously, looking around. A lot of these she'd never seen before, but they looked pretty interesting.

[fionna_time]

"Yup!" Fionna said. "You pretty much just gotta stay up and grab the butterflies and not get killed! it's pretty simple, but the object is to not fall down. Give it a try!"

She moved so that Kazumi could get shot, humming the song to herself. "Always, I wanna be with yoooou.."

[starofpleiades]

Giggling at Fionna's singing, Kazumi stepped up to the arcade cabinet and give it her best shot. Not surprisingly, she made the first few jumps before crashing into one of the big star barriers.

"Oh no, was I supposed to jump over that one?"

[fionna_time]

Fionna nodded. "You gotta stay afloat, Kazumi, and dash a lot so you don't hit anything. Come on, I know you can do it!"


Undettered, she still sang under her breath. "When its cold outside..."

[starofpleiades]

"Wait, there's a dash on this thing?" Which was Kazumi's cue to dash right off a cliff and into the next platform. "Whoops... guess so!"

Damn thing doesn't work on my compy lol

[fionna_time]

"Yeah, right here!" Fionna said, indicating the other button. "Just use it when you think you might fall, and remember to catch the butterflies, ok?"

[starofpleiades]

"Alright, trying! I think they might be fairies though..." Of course, trying to stare more closely at the screen brought the unicorn to its next untimely demise, and the game over screen. "Whoops... is 2170 points good or bad?" The decapitated unicorn head was a little off-putting, even if it was just a robot.

[fionna_time]

Fionna made a face. "Yeah, I guess I've been trying to block out that fact. I dunno if you were here for it, but we had to deal with a bunch of those faerie guys. And yeah, that's actually pretty good, man! I knew you'd be awesome!"

[starofpleiades]

"Oh, yeah, that was when I just got here," recalled Kazumi. "I kinda got swarmed at breakfast once. Alright, I'm gonna try again!"

Starting over, Kazumi was doing a lot better this time... and humming along with the music.

[fionna_time]

Fionna made a face. "I got turned into a bunny girl. In fact, a lot of the junk that happens to me is with me wearing real small clothing. It gets pretty annoying, actually."

She grinned. "I kinda like this song, don't you?"

[starofpleiades]

"Eheh, I think that'd be cute on you," Kazumi giggled. "Though sorry to hear about the small clothing!" Says the magical girl with probably the smallest clothing for a costume.

"It's kinda catchy, in a silly sort of way~"

[fionna_time]

"I didn't mind looking like a bunny or eating the veggies and stuff! That's sorta what Sanae calls cosplay. But that doesn't mean they gotta throw me in panty hose and this skintight thingie with no pants!"

Really, who does that?

"I dunno, I like it! I just sorta wish it was faster, you know?"

[starofpleiades]

"Oh, I guess it is like cosplay..." Cosplay as an actual casino bunny-girl, anyway.

"Maybe! It being so slow and dramatic is kind of what makes it funny though!"

[fionna_time]

Yeah, don't tell Fionna that. It would only make her more self conscious.

Fionna nodded. "Yeah, but I kinda think you might feel like that for somebody sometime, so its kinda cool!"

[starofpleiades]

"Heheh, that's true... though it would be kind of silly if I thought of rainbow robot unicorns when I did!" Exploding ones at that, as she mistimed a jump.

[fionna_time]

"Yeah, I dunno if I would like the song as much if it were about unicorns dying and junk," Fionna said. "At least this way its about something kinda nice even though you're doing something completely unrelated! It just fits!"

She found a place to sit, stretching a little. "Do you have video games in your world like this?"
