Just as Subaru had announced, the Inn was laid out for a grand old party and everyone was invited! The first floor had wall panels opened for two large rooms for mingling; one with food and music, the other with a few different games (and space for anything people might bring in)!

The hot springs are also ready as always, with towels and buckets and such all set out, in case someone wanted a nice relaxing soak in the otherwise chill night air.

For those staying the night, the second floor has been closed off to offer as much privacy as possible, with futons laid out as they were intended, four to a room. It might be too cold and dark to go home after midnight, after all, and Subaru will not kick anyone out.

The only thing she seems to have forgotten is fireworks... but that doesn't mean sparks can't fly at midnight.

Nice as that would be, I wouldn't wish being here on anyone I know. It's just not right for them to be here, and it'd be a selfish wish on my part.

... Though you kind of make it sound worse than it really is.

Maybe...

It just feels like things have gotten... darker, lately. [ The pirate queen and her kidnapping. The woman in the well, and those killings. The food supply problems. Getting lost.... ] It's one of the reasons I wanted everyone to come, tonight. [ Gesturing to the gathering. ] I wanted them to be able to celebrate somewhere safe and peaceful.

Could be worse. Very... very, worse.

[ She shakes her head. ] That's not right at all. The way we should be thinking is that things could still be better — and that it's up to us to make it that way.

I have a horrible track record for that.

Is that any reason to give up on it? I don't think so.

Maybe to leave it to those who can? I'm not going to go out to hinder them.

[ Subaru can see so much of her younger self in Sayaka; the frightened young girl who thought herself a danger to others because of her drastically different body. Never did she consider that she would have to go back and give this sort of pep talk to someone who found themselves in a similar situation. ] I don't think you have anything to be afraid of.

I'm not really afraid though.

You're sure? [ Subaru doesn't really know when to stop pushing, a lot of the time. She could be off-base, sure, but she has her doubts on that. ]

Is this the face of someone who is afraid?

[ That question is met by a penetrative stare, as Subaru leans in a bit closer. ]

[ She closes her eyes and smiles, leaning back. ] I guess not.

[ Then she gets up and gestures. ] Come on. All this time we're talking, when we should be having fun.
