A gloom had come over many of her friends, and it was bringing Fionna down...almost. After all, the weather was changing, and there was something about the way the weather had changed that made Fionna feel happy. If her friends weren't going to be happy, she could at least try for them, right?

And what was the best way to do that but to try to get into a festive mood? Fionna was in the gardens, putting flowers in her hair, her hair combed neatly and flowing a little longer than usual out of her hat. It would have surprised even Cake back home: she had never looked this primped up.

Of course, this would have actually been a good idea to look at Alice's post, but like most alerts, Fionna had missed them and was walking around the gardens, seeing what food she could gather in the treefort later. True, she was really only there half the time, but you never knew what you would need later, right?

"Awesome, that's the same reason I'm pickin' the flowers!" Fionna said. "Well, mostly the reason. I couldn't really tell nobody else, but, um..."

She brought out an open petal with bright blue tips, a pinkish middle and a dark green toward the end.

"...I was looking to get you a really nice one too!"

Amamiya accepted it with a smile. "Why thank you," she said, sticking it into her hair. "How's it look?"

[fionna_time]

Fionna looked at her, grinning shyly. "Really nice, it kinda matches with your hair. But most stuff looks good on you anyway, you know?"

[gentlecuteside]

She'd figured out by now that arguing with Fionna over compliments was a pointless endeavor. She smiled, said "thank you", and then reached back to smooth our her hair. That made her frown a little. She hadn't had her hair cut since arriving here, and it was...well, it was pretty long to start with, but it was getting a bit unmanageable.

"Fionna, I'm thinking about having my hair cut," she said. "What do you think?"

Yes it was. Fionna was a girl who seldom strayed from her perceptions, and this was one of those times. The new question, though, took her by surprise.

"Your hair cut?" She said, staring at the girl. "Hmmm. Ok. Ok ok. How short dude?"

[gentlecuteside]

"I'm not sure," she admitted. Then she indicated a line just above her shoulders. "To here, maybe? I've never had short hair, though, I'm not sure how it would look."

[fionna_time]

"Dude, it'll look great! I mean, you can think what you want, heh, but I think you'll look pretty math. Just be sure you wanna do it, and go nuts! I'll be right behind you!"

Actually-

"Hey, who's gonna cut it anyway?"

[gentlecuteside]

"I hadn't even thought about that," she admitted. "It took me my whole life to grow out this hair, I'm not going to lose it lightly."

[fionna_time]

Fionna pondered this a moment.

"Ya know, the first time we met, you were all about my hair, combing it and keeping it all neat and stuff. So why don't I return the favor and cut your hair?"

[gentlecuteside]

"Are you sure?" Amamiya asked, reaching back to touch her hair protectively. "You do know how to use a sword but...no offense, but you're not exactly big on precision."

[fionna_time]

"What?! That's gronk, I'm totally about precision! Besides, I'm cutting your hair, so you know I'll take it supa serious! I mean come on, its...ya know, you. I won't mess it up, promise!"

[gentlecuteside]

"I'm sure," she said, and meant it. "I think your family sword might be overkill, though."

[fionna_time]

Fionna giggled. "Dude, come on, even I'm not that dumb. We'll totes proper scissors and everything! Besides, swords are for beating down bad guys, not cutting ha-"

And she now fell flat on her face.

[gentlecuteside]

Amamiya was in mid-laugh when Fionna fell flat. She stopped, and blinked confusedly.

"...Fionna? Are you okay?"

[fionna_time]

"'M stuK," was the reply from a face planted Fionna, who was already trying to get up, grimacing. "I can't move!"

[gentlecuteside]

"What are you talking about?" she asked, kneeling down to help her up. "What happened?"

[fionna_time]

Fionna shook her head. "I dunno, I was just standing here talking to you, and now for some reason I can't move! What the lump?"

Excuse her foul language.

[gentlecuteside]

"Well, it's clearly not some kind of full-body paralysis," Amamiya reasoned. "You can speak just fine. Can you move your arms? legs? Anything at all?"

[fionna_time]

Fionna looked down, and tried shifting her body. Her mouth could move all right but the rest of her was definitely not cooperating.

"My arms a little, but nothin' else. Is this some kinda spell?"

[gentlecuteside]

"It must be something," Amamiya said, looking around. "I bet there's something...oh. Look. It's that time of year again."

Sure enough, a sprig of mistletoe was hanging overhead. Just great.

[fionna_time]

"What time of year? You mean there's a time when magic spells are just flying around? Where did I miss that?!"

She sighed. "Stupid forcefields. Rrgh. NRRGH!"

[gentlecuteside]

"No, I mean...oh, here."

She bent down and gave Fionna a good kiss. Unlike last year, this was no big deal - they'd been kissing for quite a while.

"There. I bet you can move now."

[fionna_time]

Fionna had definitely not been expecting that, but once it actually happened, it had a way of sucking all of the fight out of her. It was weird, that kissing could come so easily now, but even so it had a way of making Fionna feel all funny inside.

And when she opened her eyes, staring at Amamiya, there was really only one reaction.

"Nope. Still stuck. I guess you have to go and try again. Must be the, like, deluxe version or something."

[gentlecuteside]

"What?"

Genuine surprise from Amamiya. That should have worked! Glancing up at the mistletoe again, she bent back down for round two.

This time, the kiss was deeper, and longer, pressing their lips together with as much passion as she could muster.

Fionna nodded with feigned glumness, and this time the kiss was ten times better, and Fionna returned it with one of her own, by now understanding the rhythm of her girlfriend's kisses. Fionna sometimes teased with a little tongue but they could be plenty intense lip to lip. It was definitely enough to get Fionna edging in closer, letting out a muffled sigh.
