Making a Map - Open

Summary: Making a map of the gardens.
Warnings: None.

Youmu's still a little unsure about this place. Sure, it's pretty and all, but the scenery is so diverse! First the shrine she knew of from her own world, then a cafe suddenly opened with robots and weird gears, and she's concerned about the area she spotted with a million gadgets and flickering screens (really addictive flickering screens). It's all discomforting and strange, and to cope, she's taken to creating a map. High up in the sky she sketched out the general shape of the area, and then flew back down low to begin drawing in the more detailed parts of the land.

She's not the best artist (certainly not), but she's devoted to her work, hardly paying others any mind as she treks through the woods and crudely draws markers for each new landmark she observes up close.

"Seems there was a lighthouse over there a ways..." She tilts her head up to the sky, frowning. "Maybe I should fly back up for another bird's-eye view."

Reimu is walking back towards her shrine when she spots Youmu. She cocks her head then walks towards her.

"What are you doing out here Youmu?"

Youmu looks over at the miko, nodding slightly in greeting. Not exactly who she wanted to see today, but since she's staying under her roof, it'd do to stay cordial.

"I'm creating a map," she responds simply.

[nekomikoreimu]

"A map huh?" Reimu said. "That's not a bad idea. How much have you done?"

"Just an outline, really," Youmu replied, holding the map down so she could see. "I flew up for a look around, and now I'm trying to pinpoint all the landmarks."

She hands her ink to the ghost half trailing her, using the free hand to turn the map towards her. "What do you think?"

Reimu looks it over for a bit. She see's it's pretty well made, and recognizes a few of the landmarks, such as the Hakurei shrine.

"Seems pretty good. Might be handy to have a map just in case some catastrophe happens. And to show new people around of course."

[undefines]

Except before Youmu can do that, a familiar face pokes its way into her field of vision. Nue floats around pretty much everywhere, so it's not really that odd to find her suddenly gazing down from above. In this case, though, she's probably a little too close for comfort...

"Maybe. What are you doing?"

"Gah!"

Youmu lurches back a few steps, nearly dropping her map, but is stopped from falling on her bum by her trailing ghost half. She glares at Nue, standing upright and clutching the paper tightly.

"I'm making a map. Don't sneak up on me like that!"

[undefines]

"I wasn't trying to sneak up on you." It just turns out that floating around more or less soundlessly makes it easy to do that, intentionally or otherwise. She follows about a step's length as Youmu retreats. "A map, though? That sounds like a good idea. I can help, if you want."

Nue must be really bored.

"You can?"

Youmu could certainly use some help, though she won't readily admit such a fact. Still, creating your own map from scratch isn't as easy as it sounded when she thought up the idea thirty minutes ago.

"Where should I head next?" She turns the map in her hands to face Nue, giving her a look at her... "detailed" map.

"Hm... Sure! Maybe one of us can fly while the other copies down what they see from the ground." That seems efficient to her. She taps her chin and leans in to examine Youmu's map more closely, her feet finally lowering to touch the ground. "Well... It'd be a good idea to go in an order where you don't have to backtrack at all. Don't you think?"

[sunbloom]

[Itsuki watches the other girl sketch for a bit, following her quietly; she'd encountered the other girl while exploring a bit more, and was curious. But after a few minutes...]

What are you up to there, Youmu?

Ah...?

[She turns her head, nodding slightly in greeting.]

I'm making a map of the gardens. Hopefully it'll make it easier to find a way around this place.

[sunbloom]

[Itsuki perks up at that.]

A map? That would be very useful... Do you need help? Do you want help?

[agelessobsession]

[She smiles weakly.]

That'd be nice...! I don't know much about map-making, really. Do you know anything? [She turns the map for Itsuki to see, displaying her crude map of the gardens.]

[sunbloom]

Not really. I know how to read maps, but not how to make them. I might be able to help somehow, though.

[Itsuki reviews the offered map, frowning.] This isn't horribly detailed yet... I wonder what else it needs beyond major structures and landmarks.

[bloomnobly]

Like always: suddenly Yuyuko.

"Hmmm, let me guess: making a map? Good luck, locations tend to shift around from time to time~."

Despite having lived with her since she was a child, Youmu still isn't used to that.

"Milady -- !" She straightens up, nodding... then her face falls. "The locations shift...?"

Giggle-giggle.

"From time to time, when people feel like building new things..."

Perfectly fine!

Youmu tilts her head, frowning.

"How does that result in locations shifting?"

"Well, things have to move around to make space."

[disillusionment]

Kyoko happens to pass by. Curiously, she looks over Youmu's shoulder.

"...What's that supposed to be?"

The art's bad enough that Kyoko can't quite tell it's a map. Whoops.

"G-Gah!"

She steps forward, whirling around and free hand instinctually reaching to a sword, but once she sees no threat, she stops with a sigh.

"Please don't startle me! And it's a map, can't you tell?" She pats out her skirt with her free hand.

[disillusionment]

She doesn't apologize, just shrugs.

"...A map of what?"

She huffs, clearly offended.

"Of the gardens! I'd like to create a map of every landmark and location to make it easier to get around here!"

[disillusionment]

"...Oh. Guess that makes sense. If you can even read it."

Blunt, huh?
