we're low on cash but seen another target

My blood starts pumping as I drain my cup

It is clear and balmy in the Gardens when Wednesday evening rolls around. The northern solstice, Spring burgeoning into Summer, but it is always beautiful here, except when the Queen loses her temper or makes another rash decision. There are insects singing in the trees, and all the paths that head to the beach seem to have been lined with flowers and torches, leading the way down to the waterfront. From what looks like a severed ships mast, a pirate flag dances in the breeze at the center of the area, beckoning visitors.

The scene is set, a wide swatch of beach ringed with flickering wooden torches, music being played by a skeleton crew, the rest of their shipmates standing at attention, waiting to serve and to dance. They rattle and smile, and although it does not seem they can speak, they can most certainly laugh. It looks like a party. It just needs a few partygoers to liven things up. The inflatible sea monsters waiting on the sand aren't having much fun on their own. Some of the other decorations are a bit more questionable, fetishes of bones and feathers and beads.

But there are drinks, if you need some help loosening up. Each of the glasses grins like a jolly skull. Maybe you don't have much choice about drinking, everything's spiked and it smells like some of the food was cooked in alcohol as well. There is a great bubbling cauldron of stew churning over an open flame and set up down the center of a long string of wooden tables there's a great bounty to be had. Seafood of all kind: tentacled and shelled and exotic. Perhaps something you've missed from home? Some still bear their head and eyes, appendages stirring fitfully. Freshest is best, of course. Maybe you should toss your favorites into the pot.

At the very end of the arrangement, there's a number of desserts, the dishware all gleaming gold, but dented terribly from years of abuse. The largest of which is a fluffy white-frosted cake. Don't worry, there's plenty of booze in the batter. Below are bowls of candied figs, orange slices, puddings, sticky treats filled with nuts and honey, chocolate and rum bonbons, marshmallows to be roasted. Don't hold back.

When you're through - (or along the way?) - there are plenty of amusements besides dancing and small talk. A row of large wooden dartboards, sets of knives as well as a sign outlinging scoring and challenges (Why don't you close your eyes and throw over your shoulder? Maybe you should challenge someone to mubletypeg instead.) There's a sturdy pinata to be bashed open, a row of coals in the sand to be braved by novice firewalkers. Perhaps you could convince someone into that dunking booth?

[[ooc; Please enjoy and feel free to be creative about what accouterments might go along with a pirate themed bash, we really don't mind. Skeletons will be milling about to serve/etc, and all games/etc have hand-painted signs with instructions.]]

"My butt is hanging out," Amamiya whispered back. "I feel so embarrassed to be wearing this."

Fionna gave her a look. "You seen the back of my suit, right dude? There's, like, three strips, that's it. You can see EVERYTHING. But you know what? Long as I'm with you, I don't care about any of that junk. I kinda wore it because I knew you'd be coming."

Ironic huh?

"I've...um, I had a look. But mine's just as bad. It covers more area but you can see right through most of that."

Her fingers were kind of digging into Fionna's shoulders from anxiety for a moment, before she relaxed them again.

"To be honest, I wore it to impress you, too. Now that it's a date, though, I feel kind of...slutty."

Her social anxiety was almost kind of impressive, in its own way.

Fionna blushed. She hadn't looked before, because she didn't do junk like that, but now that she realized that, she was curious. For a second anyway.

Having recovered from that though, she now understood exactly what Amamiya had gone through, and how embarrassed she must have been feeling the whole time. No wonder she had run off!

Well Fionna wasn't the type to let that go unwarranted. She released Amamiya, ran over to one of the tables and, in a feat of pretty bad assery, pulled the tablecloth off and walked over to Amamiya, bent to her waist, folded and then tied the cloth around her like a makeshift sarong.

"There," she said, "and if I hear anyone call you slutty, they answer to me. You're good enough to be a princess."

Amamiya smiled down at her. This wasn't really a good permanent solution - it was far too long and unwieldy - but it did help, at least for now.

"Thank you," she said. "Are you sure you don't want a tablecloth of your own?" Fionna DID have a skirt thing...but you could see right through it.

Just say the word and Fionna would have cut the cloth so Amamiya could move easily. In her haste, Fionna had forgotten to do this, but that was what being impulsive meant sometimes.

She laughed. "It's kinda funny, but I cared more about that earlier, now, not so much."

Maybe it was being with Amamiya now...but certainly the rum helped.

"I'm the other way around," Amamiya admitted. "I was fine with it until I realized this was a date."

Fionna blushed, looking down. "Uh, dude, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you nervous. I'm real sorry! Was it an...ok date?"

"It was nothing you did!" Amamiya was quick to reassure her. "I just...wasn't expecting it and reacted a bit strongly."

She managed a smile. "But I don't see why it bothered you. All you had to do was act like you, and it would be a good day. To me, anyway. I guess I kinda talked too much, but just another day having fun with you was all I wanted, I just...I guess I wanted you to know what that stuff meant, to hang with you and laugh and all."

"It's...hard to explain," she said. "You know something of my past. It's...being close to somebody, especially somebody I really care about, is...scary."

Fionna nodded. "Yeah, I know. And if I were a smart girl, or one of those ones that Ahika keeps going on about, I would have waited. But that's not me, Amimiya: if I want something bad, I go for it. What if some other girl came and tried to date you while I was relaxing? I couldn't let that happen. That and...I wanted you to know even if you think no one cares or whatever, there somebody who'll look after you, ok?"

"I...it's not your fault. It's my own problem." She looked away, shamefaced, before composing herslef and returning with a smile.

"I believe we still have dancing to do?"

"Yeah, but that kinda makes it my prob too. I like it better when you feel good. And I like trying to help you."

She smiled sheepishly. "Ok, but go easy...I kinda burned my feet earlier!"

"Of course," she said, leading Fionna back out onto the floor. She placed her hands on her shoulders again, and before long they were dancing again.

""I'm not...good at this," she whispered to Fionna as they spun together on the floor.

She smiled. "It's not a contest, and we're not doin' it to impress nobody. Just do what feel right, and it'll all be ok, trust me. Like earlier. That was pretty awesome."

Though she did dip Amimiya here, not being able to resist leading just a little bit.

"I don't mean dancing, I mean--whoa!"

She went down into the dip, silent for a moment, and then resumed, a bit pink-faced, when she returned to an upright position.

"I mean...this. Us. Girlfriends. You saw how I freaked out earlier. And even though I want this to work...I really want this to work...I can't guarantee that that won't happen again."

That sorta sucked, but, when she thought about it, did it really make her want to stop? Fionna was a pretty loyal person, and when it came down to it, Amamiya had come through for her whenever she really needed it. Maybe she could go for someone who knew what they wanted, who didn't just run.

Maybe.

"Well, I'll still wanna be with you, I can't lie," Fionna said, "but why don't you try not running away, just staying and seeing what happens? Just...deal with me,and we'll see. If you think its a mistake you can go. But if you don't, then, you know, I'd really like to get to know you more, and make you feel happy."

"I'm going to," she said. "I'm going to try. I'm going to do my best. But if I...panic, or lose it, and say or do something really stupid, like tonight...please be patient with me, okay?"

Fionna stared. "You mean, like now, saying something stupid like have patience with you when I'm just real happy to dance with you and have fun?"

Amamiya blushed. "I-I'm just thinking about the future!"

"Then stop that," Fionna said, "and just dance with me, because I'm real happy with you and we can find out what happens later, ok? Because I'm having a good time, and you should too!"

And you just got swung over and held close.

"I...I...alright," she said. Her arms wrapped a little tighter around Fionna's shoulders. "I'll try to just relax."

She smiled.

"Thanks," she said. "Next time, you get to choose what we do together, ok? I don't wanna make you uncomfortable."

Amamiya almost tried to explain to her that it wasn't the activity that was the problem, but decided against it. She could be quiet and just enjoy this, for now.

She nodded, held Fionna close, and together they danced the night away.
