Really should know better.

Summary: Mistletoe mischief! Also, I had just missed the one last year:(

A gloom had come over many of her friends, and it was bringing Fionna down...almost. After all, the weather was changing, and there was something about the way the weather had changed that made Fionna feel happy. If her friends weren't going to be happy, she could at least try for them, right?

And what was the best way to do that but to try to get into a festive mood? Fionna was in the gardens, putting flowers in her hair, her hair combed neatly and flowing a little longer than usual out of her hat. It would have surprised even Cake back home: she had never looked this primped up.

Of course, this would have actually been a good idea to look at Alice's post, but like most alerts, Fionna had missed them and was walking around the gardens, seeing what food she could gather in the treefort later. True, she was really only there half the time, but you never knew what you would need later, right?

Of course. Sette had no interest whatsoever in bathing costumes, and still regarded them as a weird and pointless thing to wear.

Stripping bare, she ran up to the edge of the water...and then stopped, as though thinking better of it. The water splashing against her feet was cold.

Aw man, she was doing it. So Sette was really kicking it up a notch. Even Fionna knew, with her having suggested this, that she'd better get ready.

She gritted her teeth, placed her skort in a nearby bush and jumped.

"SON OF A BLEEB BLOB ITS COLD!"

Sette hesitated a moment longer, but then no more. She couldn't be shown up like this. Closing her eyes and steeling herself, she followed suit and jumped right into the current.

She shrieked the moment she hit the water. It was freezing! She was pretty sure the only reason it hadn't actually frozen up was that it was moving. The force of the cold knocked the breath right out of her, and she surfaced a moment later, gasping and trying to rub herself warm again. It didn't work.

"Bugger me in the arse with a poker!" she swore as she headed for the riverback, wet hair sticking unpleasantly to her back. "I warned ya about cold!"

Oh man, it was taking everything for Fionna not to flip right now. The cold water was like a punch in the gut, only it was all over her body, and she could feel goosebumps rising up her shoulders and down her back.

Of course, it was also Fionna, who had no intention of looking like the stupid water got the best of her. As she told Sette before, she HAD been to the Ice Kingdom constantly, not to mention been frozen by the Ice Queen a few times.

She bit her lip, breathed in and started to move her arms and legs, back and forth, biting through the pain and the cold.

Sette crested the river bank and sat herself down on the edge, shivering, still trying to rub her arms for warmth. She looked down at Fionna like she was the craziest person Sette had ever seen.

"You daft? Get outta the freezin' water!"

"I S-s-said I'd s-s-s-s-wim and I'm gonNA!" She yelled back, still circulating her arms and legs. True, her skin was definitely starting to get red now, and Fionna, who had stamina to spare, understood that even sheer will was not going to keep her in here.

She took one more lap then bounded out, shivering like crazy.

"N-nevermind. This s-s-stuff without clothes-s-s is bizonkers."

"Wh-what, and w-wet clothes'd b-b-be better?"

She was still shivering up a storm. She regretted so much that they hadn't thought to bring towels, or something else to dry off with. She didn't want to put her clothes on until she was at least a little dry - freezing wet cloth wasn't any better than doing it nude, after all.

"N-nah, this was-s s-s-sorta just bad all o-over," she stammered, shivering. "Clothes are gonna have to dry. C-come here, we're just gonna h-h-have to huddle up, ok?"

"D-don't you get no funny ideas!" she stammered out, but she was already scurrying over to huddle up next to her. Any port in a storm, right?

"D-dunno if this is gonna d-do it though," she admitted. "We gotta get warm fast."

"Like g-getting warm?!" Fionna stammered, still shivering. "W-what other ideas ARE there?!"

Seriously, what did she think was running through her head other than COLD COLD HURTING MY CHEST SO COLD.

"L-like how? You want us to R-ruun or something?"

"I-I dunno! Y-you're the adult, you f-f-figure it out!"

Her whole body hurt. Breathing was hard, it felt like her very lungs were freezing. A thought occurred to her. If a jump into cold water cause this, then...

"W-what about that h-hot bath place? It close b-by?"

Fionna grimaced. "We're n-not that far apart in age, y-you know!"

Ok they were, but Fionna was also a little less mature thinking in certain situations. Right now though, Sette said something that made a heck of a lot of sense.

"R-right, yeah! Get on my back dude, I'll run us there! Just hold onto my shoulders, ok?"

Sette gladly clambered on, grabbing onto her shoulders and locking her legs around Fionna's waist from behind. Not only was this the most secure position, it also was the warmest.

Fionna was not about to let either of them down. She grabbed their clothing and booked it to the springs, glad it was Subaru who owned it and not Ahika, who would have never let them live it down without being horrible.

"Can'ttalkgottagetwarmclothesfellBYE," she yelled at the attendant, and zipped pass to get the two straight into the hot springs.

Sette practically leaped off of Fionna's back and jumped straight into the water. Screw cleaning off, she needed warmth and she needed it right frickin' now.

Of course, a moment later she shot out of the hot water with a "Yooooow!", with a painful stinging sensation on every inch of her body. She couldn't win for losing with water temperature today, it seemed.

Fionna, despite the cold, actually showed some restraint for once, waiting for Sette, then starting into the water, sucking in her breath, but moving slow enough so that she had a chance to not freak out for the change in temperature.

"Sette! Are you ok dude?"

"I'm fine, I'm fine!" she said from the ground, her teeth grit and her tail sticking straight out. "Just gimme a second."

After agonizing minutes she slid back into the water, more carefully this time, wincing as her skin adjusted to the temperature.

Fionna was pretty sure that Sette was not fine, but she wasn't going to say anything about that right now. She was just waiting, and slowly getting the feeling back in her limbs again.

"I'm usually pretty good against cold," she finally said, laughing to herself and pleased when Sette joined her. "But at least nothing too bad happened to us, other than us feeling really cold and stuff."

Oh, and she was making sure she was right next to Sette too. The body contact made her feel less like either of them were going to die.

"That was a bloody awful idea," was Sette's assessment. "We musta been mad."

Her skin was tingling all over as it unfroze. Her hair was literally frozen up, full of ice, and she dunked it underwater to thaw it.

Fionna grinned. "Yeah, I know, but come on dude: who else could say that they were cray cray enough to do something like that? That's the sorta thing I would do in Ooo all the time! It's all about doing stuff to test your limits!"

She chuckled. "And you looked pretty cool, trying to swim and stuff. Thanks for doing that with me!"

"I know full well how ta swim," Sette pointed out. "But ain't nobody could swim in that."

"That was what I meant!" Fionna said. "I saw ya swimming when we all went to the beach, remember? I was sayin' it was awesome that you still tried to brave the cold water for a little bit with me! That's pretty mathmatical!"

"For once I don't feel awesome," Sette grumbled. "But thanks anyway."

"nah, I kinda feel like crap and we're luky we didn't lose a body part!" She said. "But we still did it, and who else would totally go and try something crazy like that?"

"A proper loonatic?" Sette suggested.

She finally had feeling again to every part of her body, and all the ice out of her hair. With a relaxed sigh, she sat up more straight by the edge of the pool.

"Well, we were lucky at least. Thank you for all me fingers bein' still in their place, Tirna."
