A gloom had come over many of her friends, and it was bringing Fionna down...almost. After all, the weather was changing, and there was something about the way the weather had changed that made Fionna feel happy. If her friends weren't going to be happy, she could at least try for them, right?

And what was the best way to do that but to try to get into a festive mood? Fionna was in the gardens, putting flowers in her hair, her hair combed neatly and flowing a little longer than usual out of her hat. It would have surprised even Cake back home: she had never looked this primped up.

Of course, this would have actually been a good idea to look at Alice's post, but like most alerts, Fionna had missed them and was walking around the gardens, seeing what food she could gather in the treefort later. True, she was really only there half the time, but you never knew what you would need later, right?

"Yeah, in your world," Fionna said, shrugging. "Which is probably not all bombed out and junk like mine. Anyway, what makes her so great?"

"Her being so awesome!" Sette said enthusiastically. "She tried ta wipe out the whole world once, and she don't let nobody back out of a deal with her. So cool."

[fionna_time]

"Sounds prey hardcore," Fionna said, almost submerging herself into the water. "Glob didn't make our world almost end though, that was all the humans and the mushroom war!"

[swarmoflies]

"She is," Sette said with metaphorical stars in her eyes. "This one time, a king tried ta get somethin' outta her for free. And she took out mosta his soul on the spot, just ta show 'im! She's way cooler'n the other three."

[fionna_time]

"Huh. In my world that was something that only vampire demons could do. But if she were gonna stop some punk from trying to get some stuff from me, I guess I can sort of get that. She sounds pretty bombastic!"

[swarmoflies]

"Well, she is a goddess. Ain't much she can't do."

Sette sighed dreamily.

"I aspire to her."

[fionna_time]

Fionna chuckled. "Good luck with that dude! A Goddess is pretty hard to be like, you know? Why doncha try for something a little simpler?"

She shrugged. "Or reading, maybe?"

[swarmoflies]

She was suddenly on the defensive.

"What's reading gotta do with anything?"

[fionna_time]

She shrugged. "Sometimes its ok. I mean, it can be boring as butts, but there's stuff you can get into."

She grinned. "Unless you're afraid man, I understand."

[swarmoflies]

"I ain't scare o' nothin'!" Sette insisted, standing up suddenly. "You best step off!"

Reality check: she'd tried to learn to read before. But no matter how hard she tried, it had just...never clicked. She could never manage it. So, instead, she'd just decided the whole thing was stupid. Classic sour grapes.

Step off? Was she telling her to lump off? They sounded pretty similar anyway.

"Well good. Because its no big deal if you wanted me to help ya. I mean come on, its not like you're not a pal or anything."
