The Caves of the Arimoi are an extensive network of caverns, winding through the earth. Who maintains the torches which light each passage with a dim and flickering luminescence? Who placed here these treasure chest, filled with artifacts both ancient and obscure? What is it even doing here, as it is clearly not part of the Queen's domain? Nobody knows, or at least nobody is answering. But here it is nonetheless, and it is both ancient and strangely beautiful.

You are not alone in these caves, however. Echidna's children lurk, jealously guarding treasures and preying on unprepared explorers. Here a woman with the lower boidy of a dragon lurks, vicious teeth dripping with venom. There, a formless, shapeshiting mass strikes out with its terrible barbed whip. There, hydras and chimaerae patrol, and in some places the beautiful woman you stumble across may not be what she seems...

How are you supposed to make nice with creatures like these? That's up to you to figure out.

"Yes, well...it's more that I want to restore the Gardens to the way they were," Amamiya explained. "If we have to live here, I'd prefer that it not be such an un-navigatable mess."

"I always thought there was something sorta messy about it to begin with," Fionna said. "I mean yeah, on the surface you have all this order and junk, but that doesn't mean something can't go wrong. Like, where was the Garden guards when we fight demon Ahika, or when people all the get hurt. It's a mess, it just hides it, I kinda like it better in Ooo, where all the crazy is in your face."

"That's true," Amamiya said. "This world seems rather poorly constructed in general. Still, I prefer its normal state over...this."

"I'm still trying to get to understandin' this place," Fionna admitted. "Why the queen does what she does and all. Is it ok we just start excepting all this stuff as normal? Are you, happy here?"

She was actually curious about this answer.

Amamiya considered. "I would say that I am...reasonably content."

That was pretty vague, wasn't it?

Yes, it was, and even Fionna noticed that.

"Well what does that mean? Are you happy or not?"

Haha talking about feeling Amamiya is so good at that!

"I...I'm not unhappy. But the Gardens wouldn't be my first choice."

Fionna is SO interested in that.

"Where would be your first choice?"

"Back to Tokyo, I suppose. I don't have much other experience with dimension-hopping."

Fionna shrugged. "Me neither, I guess. But you did say you were happy to be here too, because you didn't have to fight so much."

She thought a moment. "You don't feel alone here though, right?"

Amamiya shook her head. "Not alone. Just...not at home, really. It's hard to settle in when you could be sent back at any moment, and the place itself tends to shift."

Fionna shook her head. "But you talk about it like you don't enjoy just sitting around, resting. You can totes do that stuff you know. It;s ok. You are safe here."

What was she talking about?

Amamiya sighed. She never really felt safe anywhere. Too many defense mechanisms raised in the face of too much trauma. Not that she conceptualized it like that, but that was how it was nonetheless.

"I'll admit I do tend to get restless. I'm not comfortable doing nothing, for the most part, safe or not."

"Well whaddya mean by nothing? I'm not saying you should stay home and get fat on the garden food. I'm saying as long as we're here and I got some one like you around, we can do whatever we want! And it doesn't have to be safe: I'm just saying you don't have to fight all the time.

She had to admit to herself that it scared her a little.

"Nothing productive, I should say. I need a reason to be doing things, not just for their own sake."

And usually that meant fighting. Honestly, she liked fighting as a task: it was straightforward and didn't demand much thought.

And this was yet more proof in Fionna's eyes that she needed to really try and understand how different humans were. She fought, sure, but she also made room for the things she enjoyed, because without them what was the point of anything.

"How about because a good friend of yours wants to see you enjoy something that isn't just fighting? It doesn't have to be anything, like, time wasting, just something where we can enjoy ourselves for a little bit."

"Well, of course I don't need to be fighting all the time. But I need a purpose in general. The Gardens doesn't provide that."

"Yeah, I know what you mean," Fionna said sadly. "That's why I explore so much, try to make lots of friends. I'm supposed to be a hero, fighting, but instead I'm here, and I can't even face the person that threw me here. It sucks."

Amamiya nodded. "You feel much like I do." Well, except for the 'supposed to be a hero' thing. Amamiya didn't think of herself in those terms.

There was really only guessing when to came to Amimiya.

"Good. Because I like to think we'll work together to get out of here."

"If we get out of here, though, doesn't that mean we'll go back to our universes? We'd never see each other again."

"Yeah," Fionna muttered, not quite sure how to phrase what she was thinking.
"She's ok, strong, determind.

Ad they proceeded to dance. A LOT.

Fionna quietly thought about this concept.

"Maybe not now. I really like you Amimiya. I don't wanna move now and leave you alone."

Amamiya wasn't sure what to say. She blushed a little - she hadn't realized she was so important to the other girl.

"Well...thank you," she said. "You don't need to worry for my sake, though. If you get an opportunity to go home, by all means take it."

Fionna hadn't realized what she said would cause Amimiya to do that. She smiled a little: it made Amimiya look almost vulnerable, something she really didn't see her acting like.

"I'll go home eventually. For now, if I have to stay here, I really don't mind hanging and being with you, you know."
