Summary: Sending out the old year and ringing in the new one. With fancy dresses and masks and dancing and music and party food.

At some point during the week, each of the inhabitants of the Gardens received an invitation, intricate and lovely on gold and silver paper decorated with tiny stars, written in a flowing cursive script and shimmering deep blue ink:
You are cordially invited to the New Year's Eve Masked Ball!
Where: The Viridian Pavilion
When: December 31st through January 1st
Dress Code: Please wear the dresses and masks provided for you!
Around ten o'clock at night on the 31st, the clear and unmistakable sound of music begins to drift from the Viridian Pavilion, perhaps signaling that the ball has begun. Those who make their way to the party — properly dressed, of course, for if you're not wearing a mask and gown, some of the animals of the Gardens will turn you away — will find the Pavilion lavishly decorated, with tables set about covered in festive food and drinks. The music has a ballroom flair, clearly intended to encourage dancing.
It's the last night of the year — enjoy yourselves.
