Touhou project 13.1: Garden of Hearts

Characters: Reimu, Marisa, anyone else that wants to bump into these 2.
Date: July 1st
Summary: Reimu and Marisa are trying to solve this incident: by blasting anyone suspicious with Danmaku till the find and defeat the Queen.
Warnings: High chance that you will be attacked.

It is a peaceful normal day in the gardens. Some of the rabbits are together, seemingly planning something. Suddenly, they are blasted by a flurry of Danmaku. In the sky Marisa fly's, followed closely by Reimu, who did the blasting.

"Those rabbits were up to no good," Reimu said as she puts away her sealing cards. They fly off, looking for anything and anyone that looked suspicious.

"They're just trash. Using anything more than a normal shot would be a waste." Marisa replies, sending a wave of star danmaku at the now swiftly fleeing critters. "Anyway, there are lots of people in place. At least a couple of them must be pretty shifty!"

Stage 1 boss!

Meanwhile, a rather irate woman holding an obviously hand-carved bow crashes out through the underbrush.

"Excuse me, but some of us are trying to get dinner. Did you really need all those birds?"

After a moment of looking confused, recognition dawns. "Marisa, what exactly are you doing, anyway?"

"Oh, we're hunting the troublesome Queen!" Marisa replies cheerfully. "If we beat up enough people, eventually she'll show herself, right? She gets pretty mad if the animals get hurt too, so we're shooting them down as well. You can take 'em if you really want to, it's not like we're gonna eat them afterwards."

"No hard feelings Signum, but we shoot anyone that's in our way! Of course, we won't kill ya, just beat you up a little!"

"She's a melee type mage and doesn't quite know the spellcard rules just yet, but she can probably dodge. So, do you wanna go first, or should I, ze? Maybe rock paper scissors to settle it?"

"Heh, that's fine by me! Prepare yourself, Signum!" With that, Marisa took out a slip of paper from her apron, and called out an attack.

"Magic Sign "Milky Way"!"

A stream of large star bullets were then fired, spinning in a pinwheel pattern, while smaller star bullets slowly floated towards Signum, filling in the gaps in between the larger stars. The density of the large stars were just enough for Signum to squeeze through, though the smaller stars would also restrict her movement if she didn't want to get hit.

"This isn't really what I had in mind," Signum sighs, discarding her bow and transforming into her pink and white armor. "Kids these days."

Before Marisa's attack commences, Signum's sword is in her hand and she's in the air. The star-shaped projectiles form a pretty pattern, but it's easy enough for an air mage of Signum's experience to graze between them, occasionally batting away a smaller one with Laevatein.

"If this is a game, I guess I'd better go easy on you," Signum remarks. Laevatein extends into a length of barbed chain with a robotic cry of "EISENZEICHEN: SCHLANGENFORM!" and spirals out around Signum in a whirlwind pattern, trying to catch Marisa between the spinning barbs and pull her closer - Signum figured she'd have the advantage over someone who fought this much like Nanoha at point-blank.

"I thought I was supposed to go first, ze?" Marisa complains, but she tries to stay as far away from Signum as possible. Her melee repertoire was limited to extremely short distance punches and kicks and broom swipes, and there wasn't supposed to be much melee in danmaku anyway.

Signum seemed to be having an easier time though, so Marisa decided to switch things up a bit.

"Graze this, ze! Loving Heart..."

Was she...?

Oh yes, she was.

"DOUBLE SPARK!!"

Instead of just one, two large lasers were shot, both of them slightly apart to trap Signum in between them, while dozens of medium sized stars were released wave by wave at an even greater density.

[identity profile] brustriese.livejournal.com 2011-07-05 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Signum dodges far to the side through the air, too savvy to be trapped between two beams like that, dodging away from Miku's talismans as well with the practice of someone used to facing homing spells. Unfortunately, she hadn't realized there were more of those slow stars outside the lasers and smacks right into one, embarrassingly.

"Oof! No wonder this little game is called 'barrage'," Signum comments, drawing in Laevatein from its spiral pattern. "Let's try this one more time. Laevatein! Fire Sign!"

The blade covers itself in flames. "SHIDEN ISSEN!" Signum shouts.

She's not able to get close enough to either of them for a proper swordfight - and isn't aiming to kill regardless - so she whips the sword forward and back, sending whirling waves of magical flame towards both the girls in a random pattern. In all honesty, Signum admits she's likely the weakest person she knows at this "danmaku" thing, but she could at least get in some practice.

[identity profile] da-ze-kid.livejournal.com 2011-07-05 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
Wait. Laevatein...?

You have gotta be kidding me, ze.

Marisa tries to dodge the flaming blade as well, but the heat radiating off the sword is enough to singe her arm. She ignores the pain: danmaku may be non-lethal, but it didn't mean it was non-painful. She got that the first time one of Reimu's yin yang orbs hit her.

Still, the timer on Double Spark wasn't up yet, and she wasn't going to burn another spellcard if she could help it. Hakkero in hand, Marisa prepares to fire Double Spark again.

Relax, girls, it's just a name.

Signum's used to the sheer number of projectiles this time, and dodges out of the Double Spark's way successfully. The sheer amount of Danmaku is starting to wear on her, though, and she's getting a little bored.

"You know what? I think I'll just end this. THE FURY OF THE SOARING DRAGON!" she yells, drawing herself and her sword up into a column of blazing fire.

"HIRYU ISSEN!"

With that, she brings Laevatein around in a wide sweep, sending an enormous sheet of flame spinning through the barrage of orbs and stars to crash into Marisa and Reimu.

Hm, Reimu had pulled out one of her higher difficulty spellcards. Well, she had used Double Spark, after all...

Since her partner had just declared a spellcard, Marisa settled for her normal shot, shooting much smaller lasers and star bullets at Signum.

[identity profile] brustriese.livejournal.com 2011-07-06 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
The volume of fire coming out of the Duplex Barrier and Marisa starts to overwhelm Signum's defenses. She's not a fast knight, and takes a lot of shots nearly head-on, absorbing them with her Armor and bruises to her sturdy body. She considers taking out Laevatein's scabbard to parry the rest of the Danmaku or firing off another spell, but that shield of Reimu's seemed quite annoying, and anyway she's not going to use a valuable Cartridge to supplement her mana in a game like this.

After one more star whacks her in the face, Signum sheathes her sword and heads down towards the ground. "Ow! Alright, alright, you've had your fun, enough with the bullets."

She sighs. "Not that I know what you were trying to accomplish here, but at least I worked up a good appetite."

We're not in combat so I'll jump out of order a bit

[identity profile] brustriese.livejournal.com 2011-07-06 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"How the hell should I know? I'm apparently the one who gave Marisa this idea in the first place," Signum demands, "and I'm just as much a prisoner as you are."

[identity profile] da-ze-kid.livejournal.com 2011-07-08 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, going around beating everyone up was always an option, ze. It's just that I wanted to check if the place had anything interesting before trashing it, you know?" Marisa cheerily replies, ending her shot.

"Don't feel bad! This is what I do all the time anyway, so your suggestion didn't really make things better or worse!"

[identity profile] brustriese.livejournal.com 2011-07-08 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Signum, in spite of all her attempts at discipline, can't help but bury her face in her palm. "That's...reassuring, I guess. I'm going to go home and try to cook dinner now."

Okay, she'd probably track down a neighbor for help. She doesn't want to poison Vivio, after all.

"Just try not to get killed by shooting someone who doesn't want to play with you, alright?" she asks, picking up her hunting gear and a couple of the downed game birds.

[ From nowhere comes a young, serious-looking woman. ]

I won't allow you to cause any further destruction on these peaceful lands. [ She takes her sword and aims it up to them--before stabbing it into the ground.

There's a flurry of roses and they can no longer see what's happening, though they feel something bringing them down and down until the ground swallows them.

Welcome to the Labyrinth, where they will spend a day being punished. ]
