One tear was too many. [CLOSED]

Characters: Akiha Tohno and Kris Loop, later Katina Tarask
Date: The same day, after this
Summary: This just keep getting better when Kris pries what happened out of Akiha.
Warnings: ANGST and Kris is a little ~~crazy~~ yandere, leading to violence and/or character death.

[When it was all done, Akiha had gone back inside, wrapped a cloth about her bleeding hand, then headed up to her room. She locked her door, closed her balcony door and locked it, then like any teenager, threw herself down on her bed and actually cried. Akiha didn't cry often, if at all, usually able to turn any pain and hurt into anger. But not this time.

After a few minutes of earnest crying, she shed her clothes in an unsightly, un-Akiha-like, pile on the floor before wrapping herself in her robe. Back on her bed, on top of the covers, she curled herself into a bit of a ball and stared at the wall.

She wanted to sleep, to forget for even a moment, what had just happened, but sleep only brought the dark whispers of her blood these nights. And she wasn't sure her ragged will would hold out against those whispers right then when she was in so much emotional pain.

...she didn't even realize she'd dripped blood onto the floor downstairs before she'd wrapped her hand up, leaving evidence behind that a certain magician was sure to notice.]

[Kris was always keeping a third eye out for Akiha. Always. And normally it wasn't because of anything like silly dreams and voices in the night. But right now, that just made things worse. Kris was always extremely vulnerable in some areas of her emotions, sometimes even having some fatal flaws. Things that were easily exploited at night by certain going ons.

She didn't spy on Akiha while she was out but she was aware when the half-demon came home. Kris had just missed her but when she went to check, she certainly noticed the blood.

Normally, she wouldn't care. Not at all. Akiha could handle herself just fine. Kris would only be mad if she was actually around when someone was being aggressive enough to harm Akiha. But right now, for some reason, she was furious. Someone had done something to Akiha...her Akiha. And that was unacceptable.

The sorcerer wasted no time and ran straight to Akiha's room. A locked door didn't stop her as she went straight through it. She could have picked it if she wanted but there wasn't time for that. Magic was the only option.

Even if Akiha was aware that Kris entered or not, she didn't stop to gawk or say anything. All she did was move over to Akiha's bed and grab her in her arms to hold her. Seeing her looking like that made Kris feel sorry for her...and mad at herself for letting Akiha get into such a state. But it was done now. It wouldn't happen again, oh no.]

[The arms suddenly grabbing her startled her and she tensed up before she realized it was just Kris. The tension left her and her uninjured hand went up to clutch at the magician's sleeve, holding onto it tight.

She's already cried, so she wasn't going to do that again, but she needed that grip... like an anchor.]

Do... do you really love me? If you're just pretending to in order to sleep with me, live in my house, get taken care of... just tell me now.

[Kris was baffled as to what kind of question that was. Of course she loved Akiha. Otherwise, she wouldn't be here right now. It wasn't even something to even be questioned, as far as she was concerned.

Which meant her suspicions were right. Someone had hurt Akiha. She was sure of it. She was also sure that she would properly take care of Akiha and make sure this wouldn't happen again.

A hand went to softly cup Akiha's cheek as she spoke up.]

Of course I do. I love you now and forever. Everything...everything is real.

[After the anger had drained form Akiha, she had shifted into the state where she questioned everything. Where she was afraid of getting hurt more, where the thought of closing herself off, pushing everyone away and just... being alone was better. If she was alone, no one could hurt her. No one would fall to the monster when she finally lost herself.]

I don't understand you. No one loves a monster...

...who else are you sleeping with?

[Because if it happened with Katina, with as free love as Kris was, it had to be happening with her, too.]

[Other than that one time with Katina...well, Kris didn't think that counted since Akiha was there. Which meant the answer was pretty obvious.]

Only you. No one else but you.

[Kris petted Akiha before leaning down a little and putting a kiss on her forehead.]

And you aren't a monster. You're the first person to ever care for me.

[That one time indeed didn't count. Akiha was more concerned about what was going on behind her back. Alice had been in her thoughts then, to be honest. It could be said that Akiha was being very hypocritical about this since she'd been sleeping with both Kris and Katina... but they knew about each other. She'd never hidden it. She'd never pretended otherwise other than lying to herself about her feelings. For both of them.]

I'm sorry, Kris. I know you say I haven't been, but I've been mean to you. Told you to not tell people... when you're the only one that really does love me. And I kept you away, kept dodging it... Been afraid...

Guess I deserved it. For lying to myself. For falling in love. For lying with dogs. For thinking I was special enough.

What happened? Was it something I did?

[For some reason, that was on the top of Kris' mind. If things weren't perfect for Akiha, she'd change it. Definitely. Because Akiha had to have eyes only for her and anyone else...well, they could be dealt with.]

[It never occurred to Akiha that Kris might take the 'lying with dogs' comment as referring to her. As far as Akiha was concerned, Katina was the dog and had always been. It had even become something of an endearment to Akiha.

She shook her head.]

No. Wasn't you.

[If it wasn't her...]

Then who was it? You can tell me, Akiha. I can make everything right again.

[Her insistence on that was a little...creepy. If she knew who had made Akiha cry, it was pretty clear that something awful might just happen.]

[And right then, Akiha was hurting enough that she... didn't care if Kris would do something horrible.]

K-katina. But you can't make it right again. You can't make her love me. Only me...

[She kept petting Akiha, her voice still casual despite what was being said.]

No. But I don't think that's what I want. If someone makes my Akiha cry, there's only one thing to be done.

I should've never fallen for her. She was... was fucking Subaru behind my back.

[Akiha's body tensed up at that, her hair going vermilion as some anger came back and her demon-blood started pulsing in her ears again. But then it was gone, the girl settling back down and hair darkening.]

And she was too much of a coward to decide, because neither of us was good enough, so she set it up that Subaru caught us so we would choose for her. I wanted to rip her throat out so badly.

I could grant that wish if you wanted me to. I can do anything you can think of.

[The violence or the gore wouldn't bother Kris in the slightest.]

[That was so tempting. But no, she refused to kill and telling Kris to kill Katina was practically the same as doing it herself. But she wasn't going to stop Kris if she decided to do something on her own.]

That won't make make anything better. She's made her choice. I... I don't care what happens to her.

[If Akiha doesn't care what happens to her, then that seals the deal for Kris. She would just have to do something to make sure Katina never made Akiha cry ever again.]

I understand. Would you like me to stay here with you for a while longer?

[Akiha was silent for a moment before taking Kris' hand in her own. She brought it close enough for her to lightly bite the meaty part of it. She didn't break the skin or even bite hard at all. She wanted blood, but she held herself back. This was the closest thing Akiha could get to a 'love bite'. Kris better not ever call it that.]

...no. It's okay. I just... want to be alone for a while. But come back to me tonight?

Tonight? Okay, I think I can be back by then.

[She'll probably call it that at some point.]

Mm. Okay.

[Akiha curls in more and lets Kris go.]

[One last pet on the head and Kris leaves the room. And she makes sure to lock it behind her since she's doing this the normal way.]

[ Katina can't, of course, go back to the mansion. She doesn't want to go back to the mansion.

Or the bathhouse. Too many memories.

...or much of anywhere. Who's going to want to put up with her right now, scowling and cursing under her breath? She'll just find a place to stay later, after she's done wandering... wherever. Towards the edges of the gardens, it looks like, nearer and nearer to a jungle. ]

[When one came down to it, with the unrestrained usage of magic, it was not difficult at all to find someone in the gardens. A quick moment to peek here, another to instantly be somewhere else to look around.

Katina wouldn't be able to hide from Kris for long. Not after what an awful thing she had done to her Akiha.

Not that Katina was hiding in the first place.

But it wasn't long before Kris found Katina, an dead smile across her face and a lifeless look behind her eyes. Brought on by the voices and dreams, all it did was bring up how she felt while being a mere street rat. The same look she wore when protecting her bread from other street rats and killing them when they got too close.]

There you are, Katina.

[ Katina had finally stopped walking, leaning against a tree and simply staring into space. There was no hiding, and with her shallow breathing and the dim lack of thought in her eyes it might almost look like she was dead and pinned to the tree.

A brightness returned to eyes for a moment as she turned to the voice, saw Kris... and they shot wide open.

How stupid was she, to not expect this? ]

Here I... am... Kris.

I'm glad you could confirm that for me.

[Whatever it is, it doesn't stop her from steadily walking closer to Katina.]

You did an awful thing today, you know.

[ Katina would love to grin and bear it, but there isn't going to be much grinning. She takes a step back. ]

Yep. There's no question about that.

[She reaches inside her cloak and pulls out one of her wickedly curved knives that she keeps out of sight.]

Do you have anything to say about that? Depending on your answer, this could be painless.

...I'm not gonna apologize or make excuses.

[ No matter how good Katina is at hand-to-hand, even with the strength ring she can't beat Kris unless the girl doesn't use any magic whatsoever. ]

You know how blunt I am.

Is that it? Nothing else?

What do you want from me? Akiha told you all about what I've done and what I said, I bet. Do you think I'm gonna tell you some reason for it that'll make you want to kill me quickly instead of skinning me alive?

That's not of any concern to me. But if that's all...

[She held her hand out in front of her, forgetting the dagger in it for the moment.]

That's it. Do whatever you're gonna do.

[ Katina lowers herself a bit, ready to... what? Run? Fight?

[Whatever it is, there isn't any time left to think about it.

Lightning shoots out of Kris' hand towards Katina.]

[ Fuck this Star Wars shi-

Katina can't dodge lightning. It throws her back, twitching, onto the ground. ]

Agh!

[Star Wars indeed. And it doesn't stop, her eyes growing wider as the seconds pass.]

[ Before now, Katina's been zapped. A brief shock from working on her machine here, a rush from an enemy attack there. Nothing like this prolonged electrocution, her body writhing on the ground, jaw clenched painfully shut.

God damn this hurts!

[She halted her barrage and lifted up a finger.]

I suppose I can end this now.

[ Leaving Katina laying there, head back, still twitching. ]

Gah... hah... then... come on...

[She's the one that asked for it.

But this time there's chanting. No sense in blowing extra power just to cast it instantly.

When the last words come out of her mouth, four large meteorites appear in the air, all coming to crash down on Katina and eventually explode on contact.]

[ Yeah, well, she figured she was gonna die no matter what. Trying to talk her way out of whatever Kris had in mind would just be pathetic at this point, no matter how painful it is.

...holy mother of... fucking meteors. Katina can barely throw herself into a roll, and the explosion still rattles her, tossing her, singing her, as everything... goes quiet?

Oh. Her eardrums must be busted. And she's burned and bleeding, though she can barely tell where any of her injuries are. ]

...f-fuck...

[What was that? Oh, Kris couldn't hear it over everything blowing up. She enjoyed that kind of thing, definitely. And was pretty sure that did in Katina.

She sighed once in relief and make a quick departure via teleportation magic. She could feel better about keeping Akiha safe from everything now.]

[ ...she left...

...didn't check her body...

...laying here... coughing... bleeding... mostly alive? Fuck this, she should've just finished the job damn this hurts. ]
