The funny thing is that, so far as she can recall, such terminology hadn't really been used between Subaru and Katina. There was no manner of possession spoken of. No labels. She only really ever answered to the affirmative whenever someone said they were 'together' or that Subaru had 'a girlfriend' whenever someone else prompted it, but not herself.

That could have been denial at work. Or... something like giving herself a safety line in case either of them left, so it wouldn't be as harsh of a break. Subaru isn't used to putting up barriers like that, but this place has a way of making certain changes necessary. Maybe.
