[The morning is rising, the early sun spreading streaks of red and gold out across the surrounding cloudscape, thin beams penetrating the wooden Labrys, spilling across its planks. It is an unfamiliar place that you will awaken in, one filled with the creaking of wood and the musical rattle of dried out bones. Did you think those skeletons carting you off in the night were a dream? Well, now you know for certain. Now you sit in a cage, cold steel surrounding you and cold steel at ankles and wrists. You are a captive.

And soon enough, your captor's shadow falls over you. Her dark hair is wind-tousled, her skin a silken brown. And she is smiling.]

A ransom? [That's the plan?] And what do you hope to receive? The Queen draws in and discards people at random.

I doubt she notes us as individuals. She's bloated, indolent, and mad. [Kuja: not a fan of queens.] You might have more success if you attacked something she cared about.

It seems we're in agreement on one point, at least. I have no love for the queen, and I'm certainly not on her side. [Quite the contrary.]

I might consider it. I can be a powerful ally. What are your goals, other than demanding ransom?

I want to know how she holds this heap together, and then I want to take it from her.

How interesting. I've wondered about that myself: the source of her power. I, like so many of us, wish to be freed from it.

And what will you do once you have dethroned her? Will you put yourself in her place and rule as a new tyrant?

But it's not 'love' I'm offering. Freedom is a fairer coin, don't you think? And I've been beyond her tea garden.

Are you? Somehow, I'm not surprised.

Freedom? Is that what you offer? I far prefer freedom to love, yes. Beyond--and where have you been? What have you seen?

I've seen most of the worlds you lot come from. There's the whole rest of infinity out there.

Did you see my world, then, before the flames claimed it? Or did you see it burn? What a sight it must have been.

I care little for infinity, though what I seek is boundless. Freedom is a fair enough name for it.

There's no jewel more rare than a world in flames. A shame you can't appreciate that.

You miss my point--I doubt you've seen my world. How do you mean to give us freedom? What shape will it take?

Unfortunately, I seem to be hampered here. Otherwise, I would have a good deal more to offer, as an ally.

I don't make allegiances lightly or easily. My offer is open as long as you can be of some use to me. But I assure you, you could find few allies, or enemies, more powerful.

I don't know what the point of this particular little charade is, but if you give me some token of good faith, I would be more amenable to assisting you in future.
