Nausicaä and Ibis

Characters: Nausicaä and Ibis
Date: December 22nd
Summary: Nausicaä and Ibis are apparently snowed in together.
Warnings: None come to mind.

Nausicaä came awake with a slight start. It was early morning - she usually woke early and today was no exception - but something was very wrong. She hadn't gone to sleep inside of a small stone hut. She sat up, taking in her surroundings. Really, she ought to be used to this sort of thing. After all that had happened in the last few weeks, she hadn't thought there was much this Garden could do to surprise her.

She could hear the howling of wind and one quick glance outside showed that there was a storm gathering - and getting worse, by the looks of the thickening snow. She frowned to herself and turned back inside. There was another young woman in here with her and she needed to check on her. Fortunately, Nausicaä knew her already.

"Ibis? Are you awake?"

You've never experienced good sleep until you've slept in the freezing cold. That's why it's always considered pretty dangerous...not that Ibis would die from temperatures like this. When she heard her name being called, she groaned and slowly dragged herself up, rubbing her eyes.

"Hmmm? Yeah, I'm awake now."

Wait a second, why was Nausicaä in the same room she was? And why didn't the room look like the one she fell asleep in? Okay, now she was startled.

"W-Whoa!" was all she could manage at the moment. Words would come later.

Ibis pushed herself to her feet and gave a look around.

Snow. Snow everywhere. She had never seen so much or it come down so hard. Even though she had grew up in New York State, the climate had changed too much to put this much stuff out of the clouds.

She shook her head in reply to Nausicaä. "I definitely don't remember falling asleep here. But...with nothing, what are we supposed to do?"

She looked down at her own outfit, which was pretty much just short shorts and a jacket. Whoever had this as an idea as a piloting outfit didn't think survival all the way through.

"Yeah, it will have to be quick. Can we find something to use as a rope though? I think I learned about this in survival training. You use the rope to find your way back because you can't see that far."

"That's not right though. You have to use the buddy system. Besides, any line will work as long as it doesn't break, I suppose."

She wasn't super resolved behind the matter, mostly because death wasn't hovering on the edge. Ibis started to stretch her arms and legs to show that she was at least preparing to go. If Nausicaä was going to go out the door, so was she.

"I'm definitely not letting someone I know get hurt because they went by herself."

She tugged up her boots in emphasis. "Besides, I can take solace that I won't be getting snow on my feet. At least that's a bonus."

"Oh, we will, won't we?" She reluctantly takes the cap and puts it on but if she's offering, there's no turning it down.

"You think we will have to do any digging. If there's food buried under the snow, it'll be difficult to find."

Ibis sighed and turned away the gloves. She could do what...ten, maybe fifteen minutes out in weather like that before it became dangerous. Nausicaä was right and she'd probably just end up holding her back anyway, if she was stuck worrying about her.

"How about...I stand by the door and keep an eye on the line? At least that way, I can be a safety backup or come inside if I need to."

You're not the only one it happened to ._.b

Ibis smiled, giving her affirmation. Hopping from foot to foot, she prepared to head out into the cold. "Let's do it fast then. If anything, I'm at least good at that."

"What do you plan on doing about food then?" This was clearly important though as far as Ibis was concerned, she could lose some weight. Too much cheesecake would do that to you. Well, for a day or so. After that, she was fairly concerned about what might happen. "Who knows how long we might be in here."

Ibis turned and walked back to the wall, sitting down and pulling her legs up to her chest. "Sorry I can't be much help. If something happens, I'll make sure to take responsibility."
