One could only stay cooped up in a spaceship cooking things for her sister for so long. There was also a limit to how much practising of one's harp one could do before it got boring. Thus, running out of things to do, Canada had gotten in touch with Prussia, inviting her out for an afternoon of skating. It seemed like the nice thing to do with someone she considered, at least contemporary times, a good friend.

This was why she could be found waiting at the front doors for her friend to arrive, fiddling with one pigtail as she peered around, hoping Prussia wouldn't be late, or get lost, or any of a thousand other things that could go wrong once Canada said, "hey, let's do something."

Laura grabs her hand, leading her toward the rink. "You gotta come watch me now. I practiced a lot!"

"A lot, eh?" Chuckling, Canada easily follows along, endeared by the enthusiasm. "Then I guess I'd better come see."

She leads the way, intensely serious, then gets ready in the rink.

"Are you ready? Are you watching?"

Giving a nod, Canada leans against the boards, completely intent on watching Laura.

"I'm watching, go on."

She has been practicing: there are reasonably competent (if shaky) jumps and twirls. Also a few somersaults, because what figure skating really needs is tumbling.

She hops up from a final flip, arms and legs spread wide in an exuberant X.

"How'd I do?"

The whole thing has Canada watching closely, thrilled to see just how much the girl put into practising and preparing this. The somersaults make her laugh, and then clap quickly so it's not taken the wrong way, and when Laura is done, she applauds again.

"You did fantastic," she assures eagerly. "You've really worked on those, I can tell."

[BEEEEAM!] I bet I could get even better, too! Do you think I should get some music? Like for dancing to?

"Oh, of course!" Canada steps onto the ice to skate across it, only to get off on the other side where some music controls are. "In fact, why don't we try to freestyle with some music right now?"

"Freestyle?" This sounds like fun! Intrigued Laura is intrigued! And following Canada like a puppy.

"Mmm, just doing whatever feels right with the music you've got, to see if you maybe want to perfect a routine with it," she explains absently, fiddling with the music. It sticks stubbornly on a relative classic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpmILPAcRQo) and so after a moment she leaves it, gliding back onto the ice.

Canada will do a little bit of showing off, then give Laura some tips on particularly fun things they might be good at. Towards the end of the piece, she gives the girl a grin.

"Hey, do you trust me to do a lift? I promise I won't drop you."

"Um... okay!" She skates forward, slightly hesitantly.

With a reassuring smile, Canada skates to meet the girl partially bent over, then grips her sides lightly as she lifts her up, over her head, and stops to twirl in place with her.

Laura stretches her limbs out, superman-style, and squeals with delight.

And that is exactly how Canada was hoping Laura would react. She keeps her up in the air as long as momentum will allow, and then slowly sets her back on the ice, making sure the girl has her balance before letting go of her completely.

"How was that?"

"You're really strong!" She hops in a little circle with glee. "How'd you learn to do that?"

"Well, I spent a lot of time watching my skaters, and then I practised with some." It helped to be both stronger than the average person, and to have been on skates many, many times longer than the average person. The advantages of being an icy nation. "That's one of those reasons it's fun to skate with other people. You can't do couples' tricks on your own."

This is going to end with some poor animal stuffed into skates and forced to endure lifts.
