and i do all of the things i have to

Characters: Oerba Dia Vanille ([livejournal.com profile] ofhappierdays) and Oerba Yun Fang ([livejournal.com profile] ofragnarok).
Date: Valentine's Day
Warnings: Umm...should be none. A LOT OF FLUFF. Maybe some kissing but nothing extreme!
Summary: (sob, musical event and overall fluff) Keepin' you off my mind, but when I think I'll be all right, I am always wrong, 'cause...

Fang had been, to use a vast understatement, frustrated since her arrival in the Gardens. It'd been a phenomenal stroke of luck that the magic that maintained this place that had frozen Vanille's brand, and although Fang was beyond grateful for it, she was worried about the others. Hope had been in a bad state the last they'd seen him, Snow, for all his bravado, hadn't been much better, and Sazh and Light...well, Fang felt she owed them both. They didn't have much time, and every wasted day in this place wore on her.

It was for that reason that she'd been reluctant to take care of the strange flower buds she and Vanille woke up attached to, but Vanille insisted, and whatever she insisted on, Fang usually found herself agreeing. True to form, their flowers, and all the others had bloomed beautifully today. Maybe it was something about them that reminded her of home, but she felt more relaxed than she'd been in days, and had decided for the first time since their arrival to explore the Gardens with Vanille without the intent of searching for the elusive Queen.

They walked close together, fingers loosely intertwined, and Fang smiled. "Been a while since we've been able to relax like this, huh? It's nice."

Like Fang, Vanille had been worried since they'd woken up, yet again, in a place they didn't recognize. But it was not in Vanille's nature to lash out, to shake things up until perhaps what they were looking for might fall into their laps, and so she had chosen to distract herself from her worry, to try making friends with the others who found themselves in this strange place, and to take care of the flower she'd found herself attached to.

Whether she'd as yet been successful with the former was debatable, but the latter had proven to be quite a triumph, as her flower (and Fang's) had bloomed big and deep red with the rising sun. The scent was nearly intoxicating, and Vanille had been unable to contain her joy when Fang suggested they explore for exploring's sake, rather than look for a way out.

She squeezed Fang's hand lightly as they walked, enjoying simply being with her. "Mmm. I'm worried about the others," she said, "but I'm glad not to have to think about my brand." There was a hint of guilt in her tone, but the day was too beautiful for her to dwell on such things. "It's good to be able to stop running, for awhile."

As Fang spoke, Vanille felt her worries melt away. She was right, the others would be fine, and so would they. No reason to think gloomy thoughts, when the weather was so nice, and the flowers smelled so good. "That would be nice." She looked up at Fang, laughing lightly. It really would be nice, she thought, for them to be able to settle down like a real family, not having to worry about fal'Cie or l'Cie or Cie'th.

The voice in the back of her mind that reared up and said, "What about Serah, and Dajh, and Cocoon?" was immediately silenced by a particularly sweetly-scented gust of wind, and Vanille forgot all about their Focus, and their promises. It would be better for them all to come here, where they could be happy.

"You're right, everything'll turn out fine!" She had told herself that, often, as they ran from place to place, desperately hoping for a way to avoid their Focus and remove their brands, but for perhaps the first time, she really believed it. It felt good, to be sure of something after so much uncertainty. Vanille smiled and brushed her shoulder against Fang's arm, humming to herself as she moved to keep up.

sob.

Vanille followed slightly behind as they made their way up the hill, and flopped down happily next to Fang once they'd stopped, stretching her legs out in front of her, leaning back on her palms. The sun was high up by then, and Vanille turned her face up toward it, enjoying its warmth.

She laughed at Fang's declaration, knowing it to be wholly true, but finding amusement in the delivery all the same. "Yep!" She scooted closer, pressing herself against Fang's side. They'd always been physical with one another, nearly everyone in Oerba was, but something about the day made her feel extra affectionate, and Fang's presence alone was enough to make her want to burst into song.

Of the two of them, Vanille was the one inclined toward music, always seeming to hum along and dance to some tune only she could hear. It was somewhat surprising, then, that Fang began to sing first. It was a song Vanille did not recognize, but Fang's voice was pleasant, and soon Vanille heard the next lines in her own:

"Get in the shower, and make my bed alone... I put on my makeup, talk into the mirror..."

The arm around her waist was Vanille's cue to cuddle closer, and she did, half-draping herself across Fang's lap, resting her head against Fang's chest. She'd always been what some people might describe as 'touchy-feely,' especially with Fang, so she didn't register much difference, aside from the fact that it somehow felt more pleasant - warmer, maybe.

When the last notes of Fang's line died out, Vanille came in again with the next.

"I walk, steady on my feet... I talk, my voice obeys me..."

She raised her arms to loop them around Fang's neck, reveling in the pleasant, electric sensation that seemed to occur wherever they touched. She couldn't recall ever feeling like this before, but with her mind made hazy by the flowers and the song, she wasn't in the mood to think on it too much. Whatever it was, it was good, and Fang seemed in a much better mood. Why question it?
