Poor, poor egg.
Characters: Katina and Akiha
Date: April 6
Summary: Katina and her eggbaby look for the other mommy.
Warnings: Ill-tempered women.
Crying is not the thing Katina expected to be woken up by. If it's not an alarm clock, then it's usually a headache - occasionally another person, but half the time she has a headache when that happens anyways. But crying, oh no, this is not what she expected at this point in her life.
It takes her about ten minutes to wake herself up, find the eggbaby, and realize that holy shit she has to take care of a crying egg with a face. The next ten minutes were spent trying to comfort it, and failing miserably until she realized the obvious - it was crying for another 'mama'. If she was wrong, of course, she'd at least get outside, but childcare? Generally seen as a thing couples do.
Her mood was already dark from frustration when she realized what she was heading towards as the cries lessened. Of course. Grumbling as she stomped up to the door of Akiha's mansion, she slammed her fist against it a few times, already at the point where Akiha could jump out the window in full-on demon AKIHA rage and it wouldn't faze her.

"Anyways, Kris comes from a different kind of society as far as I can tell. I only know a few swordsmen, and magic's even rarer, whereas Kris talks about those things like they're normal. Of course... on the other hand it is her." But damn, a vault full of gold would be pretty sweet. Why doesn't she have one?
no subject
"I can't even imagine what life is like where she's from. At least she managed to learn a trade and isn't a beggar on the streets anymore. Though she still acts like one. Maybe teaching her how to read English will do her some good."
Akiha waved her hand then, tired of talking about Kris. "Do you have to go get anything from whatever hovel you normally live in?"
no subject
"Neither of us could really handle living like that, but it's not like society doesn't change all the time. Imagine if either of us were whisked off five-hundred years in the future." But she could accept an end to that conversation, if only to keep Akiha from getting into a worse mood.
She shot Akiha a frustrated look. "Unless you've got a bunch of spare clothes, I need to get some. Just a few days worth should be fine, it'll be a quick trip."
no subject
But Akiha moved on, giving Katina a decent look over. "...nothing we have here would fit you; you're too tall. Like Gal. She took all her belongings when she moved out..." There was a flicker in her eyes at that, but the girl pushed past whatever was bothering her. That wasn't the present situation, that is.
She then turned her gaze onto the egg again. "I wonder if that would fit in a messenger bag. Like a sling, carrying... thing. Whatever they're called."
no subject
Yeah, get a good look. Make Katina wonder if you're just thinking about whether or not you have clothes for her. "Right, right. No one here's all that tall I guess, so I'll have to go get my own clothes."
She turned the egg to face her, sizing it up. "Well, it depends on what kinds of bags you've got. If not, I can carry it down and dig something up, and then it'll be easy for you to carry it back."
no subject
"I said a messenger bag. Do you not have those in space?" Before Katina could answer, Akiha was on her feet. "I'll be right back. Do not follow me," she said.
And out the door she went, heading up stairs... to the East Wing. If she'd left alone, she will be back in less than five minutes with a black messenger bag over her shoulder embroidered with the crest for the Asagami Private Girls Academy on it.
no subject
not that Katina's looking for those."Are those the only kinds of bags they have in Japan?" she shot back lamely. Drumming her fingers on the table, she waited, until Akiha came back. Putting up with the egg for such a short time was tolerable.
Katina held out the egg, looking at the bag expectantly. "Think it'll fit?"
no subject
She looked the egg over and then the bag. "Hmm." Opening it up, she took out a notebook that was a bit battered and surprisingly dirty - like it had been carried around outside - along with a pencil box. Holding the bag open as wide as possible, she nodded to Katina.
"Try to put it inside. It looks like it might fit. A bit snug, but at least it'll be warm." Wait. Did she just say that? Akiha scowled.
no subject
"I don't think it's gonna hatch or anything, so is it really important?" Not taking too much care, Katina started to shove the egg into the bag. The thing made a few gurgling noises, but nothing displeased; good thing too, because she'd probably lose it if it cried the whole way out and back. "Alright, that should be just fine."
no subject
She situated the flap somewhat over the egg and then picked the bag up. "Let's go," she said, heading to the door - detouring slightly to wrap her scarf about her neck. To a normal person, the scarf was completely unnecessary, but Akiha didn't exactly fall into that category.
no subject
For all she knew, Akiha was just wearing the scarf to be fashionable. Either way, she wasn't really cold even in just pants and a long-sleeved shirt, so she followed without any more comments about the weather. "So are you gonna make me wear my finest clothes to fit in with your mansion, or can I just bring what's comfortable?"
no subject
"I doubt your finest counts as anything 'fine'. Don't bother. Even if you cleaned up and tried to look like a lady, you'd still fall pathetically short." Akiha shivered a little as they went outside and pulled the scarf tighter.
no subject
"Hey, you'd be surprised. The hardest part is dealing with my hair." She looked over at Akiha, wondering if the cold was really affecting her that badly. It didn't seem like much to Katina, but that was something else that soldiers learned to deal with. Plus, she was from a fairly cool climate, colder than Japan at least as far as she knew. "Actually, the bigger problem is that I don't like dresses. Maybe a nice suit would work better."
no subject
Akiha couldn't help the glance over and the way her eyes subtly racked over Katina. Yeah... she would probably look good in a suit. She was tall enough and... had a slightly masculine feel to her. Slight.
And then she realized what she was doing and strode off quickly and with purpose. Until she remembered she didn't know where Katina lived.
"Where do you live?" She stopped and focused her gaze on the orchard about them and not on Katina. "I also doubt you have enough fashion sense to select a proper suit for a woman's frame anyways. You can't just grab any suit and expect it to work with you."
no subject
"Hey, that's what other people are for. Fashion sense isn't a top priority in the military, and when I do need it, I can just go to someone like Excellen." In fact Excellen would probably love to put Katina in a nice suit. "Anyways, I'm living in Grell's place. She offered to put people up, and I'm not picky."
no subject
And with a destination set, Akiha set off again.
no subject
It wasn't all that far to the other mansion, really, at least for Katina.
no subject
Which was about as much as she was expecting from Katina in a uniform.
"I won't deny I'm curious," Akiha replied. "If you recall, I did say you were the first soldier I've ever known. But it's not as if I care whether you do or do not."
no subject
They reached Grell's imitation mansion, Katina not even stopping to knock or otherwise make her presence known. Really, if Grell was there she probably already knew knowing her, so no need to bother. She headed for her room without a word, not far from the entrance. "Wait outside my room, it's not big enough to bother the egg."
If Akiha insists or peeks, her room is a little messy right now.
no subject
Akiha looks over Grell's place as she follows along, giving a slight snobbish sniff as she finds it not to her standards. She will glance as Katina goes inside, but really... she lives with Kris. Katina's room, while messy, isn't as messy as the magicians.
Leaning against the hall wall, Akiha idly bounced the bag lightly against her leg. Apparently the egg liked it, not that Akiha noticed.
no subject
Katina hadn't really expected it to be up to Akiha's standards. There was something particularly grand about the Tohno mansion, even if it was still smaller than the royal palace in Riksent. Even Katina could tell that much.
There are sounds of things bumping and shuffling as Katina packs up; in barely minutes, she's stepping back out into the hallway with a well stuffed backpack. "All ready to go."
no subject
Since Katina said she was ready, Akiha lead the way back out and across the Orchard. A minute into the trees, she suddenly stops then hands the bag with the egg over to Katina.
"Take it. There's a small gaggle of geese up ahead. See?" She points to the side of the path where the birds were mulling about, picking at berries.
no subject
Katina follows closely, carrying the heavy pack with practiced ease; at least it didn't have any sort of camping equipment to weigh it down. She stops, silent, when Akiha does, taking the egg without any questions, and looking out at the geese. "Yeah. What about 'em?"
no subject
Akiha gave Katina a bit of a look before she started toward the birds. Normally, she wouldn't even let the pilot see her hunt, see how her demeanor changed, but Katina already knew what she was. So, she wouldn't be surprised by the way she moved like a predator... hunting.
Her footsteps were light, making very little sound, as she drew closer. She wasn't hurrying at all as she watched the geese. She wanted to get a good look at them all so she could pick the best one. And once she got about twenty feet away, her fingers curled a bit and she smirked just before her hair blazed red. Instantly, one of the large geese released a death cry, feathers bursting into flame for a second, before flopping dead on the ground. The rest of the birds took off into the air.
Akiha rolled her neck a bit before her hair immediately went black. Time to collect her prey.
