She'd made the decision to utilize the sparsity of the early morning to try and coax the Crimson Loftwing into a what would hopefully be a smooth bathtime long before the time actually came ... but the night before, she trashed the idea. If things didn't go as she planned -- and it was likely that they wouldn't -- then she would have had a squawking, shrieking, clawing horror waking up the entire Garden.

And now that the early hours of the evening had settled in, she was ready to face the music.

Standing knee-deep in one of the many ponds in the area, her boots, gloves, chain mail, and equipment discarded in an nonuniform pile in the grass nearby, she put her fingers to her mouth and blew out in a piercing whistle.

It did descend from the sky, the enormous, bright red creature, but not in her typical nosedive from the high heavens. The Loftwing was likely roosting near Link's modest camp site, as it couldn't fly to its normal astronomical heights in wait of its master's call. Overall, she'd say that it was adjusting quite well to living life below the cloud cover of the Surface, but as it circled around to land, it gave her one look and made a last-minute veer to the right, opting to place its taloned claws on the sandy embankment instead of the water. The Loftwing likely knew what was coming.

Making sure that the animal was well-maintained and pruned for flight was one of the primary responsibilities of the rider -- and Link considered herself to be thoroughly blessed to have such an independent-minded bird. Usually the creature was content to preen and groom itself, but since her arrival to the Garden, it had flat-out refused to associate itself with the Garden's water supplies, save for drinking it ... and it was beginning to show.

"Come on ..."

Sloshing unceremoniously toward her not-so-noble steed with a hand extended and a stern look on her face, Link attempted to take an authoritative tone and stance. Just like she always had. But the Loftwing craned her neck in revulsion, claws sinking stubbornly into the grass.

It had never been an issue before -- not with her, anyway. Getting her Loftwing to pay attention, do what it was supposed to do. Everyone in Skyloft had been met with a sort of snotty disdain or plain apathy when dealing with the Crimson bird, but the bond that Link had shared ... it was special. There had never been a discrepancy this direct before in ignoring orders, and she could just feel that this first instance of bathing was going to be something of an ordeal.

"... It's just a bath ..."

Trilling a low, displeased sound when it saw that she was going to be insistent on the matter, the Loftwing ruffled the feathers of its neck and fanned out its tail.
